DUE to the extreme heat conditions, pennant action in the Bendigo Campaspe Goldfields Bowls Region on Saturday, 14 January started at 9am.<\/p>\n
The early start saw both Heathcote Bowling Club\u2019s Division 3 and division 7 sides record good wins.<\/p>\n
In Division 3 Heathcote played host to Kangaroo Flat at home and won by 21 shots, 93 to 72.<\/p>\n
Chris Morcom\u2019s rink started well and led by 11 shots after 14 ends, the foursome then went onto win the final seven ends and take the matchup by 23 shots, 31 to L Hardingham\u2019s 8.<\/p>\n
Maurice Lee\u2019s team made a slow start dropping the first five ends but then fought back winning four of the last six to go down by just four shots, 17 to D Allison\u2019s 21<\/p>\n
While Bill Gardiner\u2019s rink made a good start and led by five shots after 14 ends the team then struggled, winning only one end to lose by seven, 19 to A Mills\u2019 26.<\/p>\n
Finally, John McGillivray\u2019s foursome scored six shots on the second end and led by eight after eight. The team then went on to win five of the last eight changes and won by nine shots, 26 to b Short\u2019s 17.<\/p>\n
This Saturday, the Division 3 squad will host Serpentine.<\/p>\n
In Division 7 action, Heathcote travelled to Harcourt and recorded a 12 shot win, 64 to 52.<\/p>\n
Lorraine Speirs\u2019 rink made an even start with scores level on 4th, 6th and 12th ends. Despite this her team then lost three shots on the last to go down by seven in total, 19 to H Braid\u2019s 26.<\/p>\n
Tony Leahy\u2019s team got off to a six-shot lead by after 11 ends and then won four of the last five to come away with a six-shot victory, 22 to C Foster\u2019s 16.<\/p>\n
Richard Edward also began quickly, jumping out and taking six of the first seven ends to led by four by the 13th. Richard\u2019s team then too the next six-changes and went to win by 13 shots, 23 to B Nunn\u2019s 10.<\/p>\n
Next round the Division 7 seven team is away at South Bendigo.<\/p>\n
Midweek Pennant action saw Heathcote\u2019s Division 2 side play host to third placed Golden Square.<\/p>\n
In a close game Heathcote lost by four shots, 49 to 35.<\/p>\n
Lorraine Speirs\u2019s squad made a good start winning the first two ends and led by four shots after 6. Her team lost the next six but fought back and took the final two end, eventually losing by seven shots, 12 to J Robins\u2019 19.<\/p>\n
Eileen O\u2019Brien made an even start with scores level after 10. Scores were level again on the 20th end, but O\u2019Brien\u2019s rink team won the last end to record a wafer-thin one-shot win, 19 to D Kent\u2019s 18.<\/p>\n
Dot Cutajar\u2019s foursome started well and won the first for ends to lead by five shots after 13. Her team then won two of the last three ends for a two-shot victory, 18 to L Maloney\u2019s 16.<\/p>\n
