THE Bendigo Campaspe Goldfields Bowls Region Saturday Pennant home and away season concluded last weekend.<\/p>\n
Played in warm conditions, Heathcote\u2019s Division 3 side played top team North Bendigo and in a close game went down by nine shots, 66 to 75<\/p>\n
Bill Gardiner\u2019s squad started slowly and trailed by 10 shots after 10 ends. His team won five shots on the 18th frame but lost the last two changes by 10 shots, 19 to J Rooke\u2019s 29.<\/p>\n
Peter Cunningham\u2019s rink lost the first five ends and were down by seven shots by the 13th. Cunningham\u2019s team also lost the last three changes ends for a six-shot overall defete, 12 to J Turley\u2019s 18.<\/p>\n
Maurice Lee\u2019s team made a good start and led by five shots on the 8th but then struggled, losing the next five ends, finally defeated by four shots, 14 to D Taig\u2019s 18.<\/p>\n
Chris Morcom\u2019s foursome won the first three ends and by the nineth led by 8 shots. His team kept up the good form to win by 11 shots, 14 to P Ariscott\u2019s 10.<\/p>\n
The Saint\u2019s Division 7 side played Bendigo East at Heathcote and got the overall win by five shots, 56 to 51.<\/p>\n
However, heartbreakingly the sevens missed the finals by a solidary shot.<\/p>\n
Richard Edwards squad won six of the first eight ends to lead by five shots after eight. His team continued on with the good for an overall five shot win,23 to L Robertson 18.<\/p>\n
Lorraine Speirs rink had an even game with scores level by the 11th end. The game remained close and her team won the last two frames to record a one-shot win, 17 to K Browell 16.<\/p>\n
Barry Cail\u2019s squad made an even start with only a shot the difference after 11 ends. Shots and ends were then shared but the home team lost the last three changes to lose by one-shot, 16 to A Bamkin 17.<\/p>\n
On Wednesday, 15 February, 17 bowlers played three games of pairs and triples in hot conditions.<\/p>\n
The winners were Glen Saunders and Ilona Hutterer with three wins, 45 points and up 13 shots.<\/p>\n
