THE Fosterville Mine-backed Quick Shear shearing competition returns to Axedale this month after a forced COVID and flood-related break.<\/p>\n
The open event winner is poised to take home $2500, intermediate first place will pocket $1000 and the \u201ccleanest shear\u201d in the learner\u2019s category will be awarded $300.<\/p>\n
Other activities and attractions on the day are set to include a market and art show, old school afternoon tea, as well as a car show, raffle, and silent auction.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe event itself differs from most other quick shears because it is not handicapped, so a lot of shearers enjoy coming because of the pace of the competition,\u201d said Axedale Events president Shane Carmody.<\/p>\n
\u201cOn the back of COVID, we\u2019re hoping it will help people feel more connected to each other and their community.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re particularly focused on including young people, who will be the future leaders of our town, they\u2019re actively involved in organising and running the event as this is an opportunity for them to learn.\u201d<\/p>\n
All money raised on the day will be distributed between Axedale Primary School, Axedale Preschool, Axedale Community Hall and several CFA brigades around the area.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is the most significant annual fundraiser for the kindergarten and the community hall,\u201d Axedale Preschool\u2019s Nicole Campbell said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt takes pressure off the families to find the time and other ways to fundraise throughout the year.\u201d<\/p>\n
