CHAMPIONS IGA has donated over eleven-thousand dollars to Bendigo Foodshare via the supermarket\u2019s Community Chest program.<\/p>\n
The effort sees a portion of funds from purchases donated back to community organisations and Foodshare CEO Michelle Murphy comes at a time when the money is much needed.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur organisation, like many businesses and organisations, are feeling the pinch of the rising cost of fuel and electricity,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe cost to keep our food relief operations up and running is rising.<\/p>\n
\u201cTo receive a donation such as this which we can put to wherever it\u2019s most needed is incredibly important for us.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ms Murphy said Champions IGA management and staff have been long-time backers of the food security charity.<\/p>\n
\u201cMichael and the team at Champions IGA have been magnificent supporters of Bendigo Foodshare,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cTheir support for us commenced at the start of COVID-19 and they have been ongoing with that support since with their Community Chest program.<\/p>\n
\u201cChampions have also supported our food drives and made space available to us from time to time when we\u2019ve had donated food that we were struggling to store in our current warehouse facility.\u201d<\/p>\n
In a milestone year for the charity, Ms Murphy thanked the community for its ongoing success.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis April is 10 years since Bendigo Foodshare was formed,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe ability of our organisation to get the volume of food out to those in need is only able to happen thanks to the support of our community.<\/p>\n
