TALENTED basketballer Mia Harvey is the March recipient of a Bendigo Sports Star of the Year scholarship.<\/p>\n
Harvey will again head west to represent Victoria Country at Basketball Australia\u2019s national under-16 championships in Perth this July.<\/p>\n
The young guard\u2019s play at last year\u2019s nationals earned a Sports Star of the Year scholarship and put her in the running for the Maxine Crouch Trust Fund.<\/p>\n
At the 2022 nationals, Harvey scored 10 points in the bronze medal play-off with Victoria Metro and since then there\u2019s been plenty of time spent on court working on all aspects of her game.<\/p>\n
A lengthy selection process for the nationals involved a lot of travelling for trials and since then for workouts with her Victoria Country team-mates.<\/p>\n
Harvey\u2019s scholarship is proudly supported by City of Greater Bendigo, and D-Club 24\/7 in Bath Lane.<\/p>\n
The scholarship intake of 2022 has continued to impress on the courts and tracks.<\/p>\n
Dash Daniels played a key role in Victoria Country\u2019s run to a silver medal at the Australian under-18 basketball titles in Brisbane.<\/p>\n
Daniels played 30 minutes and racked up five points, eight rebounds, an assist and two steals as Victoria Country took on Victoria Metro with Metro winning 90-51.<\/p>\n
Another of Bendigo\u2019s young guns, Lavinia Cox, averaged 12.5 points per game for Victoria Country.<\/p>\n
At Athletics Australia\u2019s national field and track titles, Avery McDermid earned silver in the under-16 1500 meters.<\/p>\n
The Bendigo University Pride\u2019s rising star clocked a brilliant time of 4:04.17 and McDermid was this year\u2019s Bendigo Sports Star of the Year scholarship recipient for January.<\/p>\n
He ran for Bendigo Region in last Saturday\u2019s start to Athletics Victoria\u2019s cross-country series at Jells Park.<\/p>\n
McDermid ran the six-kilometre leg for the under-20 class in 20.57 as Bendigo Bats were runner-up and his scholarship was made available through the support of Pipe Doctor, and D-Club 24\/7 fitness.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
