THE CITY of Bendigo is looking for input from people who have a disability, or people who care for or work with someone with a disability.<\/p>\n

People who fit those criteria is being asked to consider nominating for the City\u2019s Disability Inclusion Reference Committee.<\/p>\n

The group aims to gives advice on how the municipality can be more inclusive to those who live with a disability.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe DIRC acts as a central point for City staff and councillors when advice is sought on matters relating to the needs and requirements of people with disability,\u201d said community partnerships manager Andie West.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe committee assists the City to consider access and inclusion when developing policies and strategies and undertaking projects, so it is an important role.\u201d<\/p>\n

Members of the committee sit a two-year term with meetings held every two months.<\/p>\n

Preparation such as pre-reading is required before these meetings and on occasion members may have to visit sites around Greater Bendigo to give advice on developments and other issues.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are looking for people with disability, unpaid carers of people with disability, representatives from local disability-specific agencies, and representatives from local organisations or networks that have influence on social inclusion for people with disability to join the Committee,\u201d said Ms West.<\/p>\n

\u201cApplications from people with diverse cultural backgrounds, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, and people of all ages and abilities, as well as past and outgoing members of the Committee are welcomed.\u201d<\/p>\n
