THE Federal Government have announced extra funding for road infrastructure projects in rural areas that includes the City of Greater Bendigo as well as the Macedon Ranges and Mount Alexander Shires.<\/p>\n
CoGB will receive nearly $1.3 million dollars on top of the $2.2 million already promised as part of phase four of the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program.<\/p>\n
Federal Member for Bendigo, Lisa Chesters, said local decision-makers will allocate the money to projects.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is Federal Government funding we are giving to local government to decide how to best spend,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are steadfast in our support and recognition for local councils as trusted delivery partners of the crucial infrastructure and services communities need and deserve.\u201d<\/p>\n
Of Australia\u2019s 550 councils, 446 will benefit from the extra funding at a cost of $250 million dollars.<\/p>\n
Federal Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government, Catherine King said the money comes at a time when transport infrastructure is under pressure.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe know many councils across the country are struggling to maintain and improve their local road networks,\u201d she said. \u201cEspecially following repeated flooding and other natural disasters in recent times.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are delivering our election commitment through phase four to prioritise road upgrades in regional, rural and outer urban areas.\u201d<\/p>\n
Macedon Ranges Shire will receive $831,325 and Mount Alexander Shire will receive $624,244 as part of the phase four announcement.<\/p>\n
Access to the funding allocations will be opened from July this year with projects expected to be delivered by June 2025.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
