THIS week there\u2019s an opportunity to take a culinary trip down memory lane at Heathcote Library.<\/p>\n
The Memory Place: kitchens and cooking event aims to give participants the chance share recollections from their youth.<\/p>\n
Library assistant Ange Graystone said it would be centred around a memory kit containing a range of kitchen items.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere will be a few artefacts on the table just to spark interest and then whoever is facilitating will pull out items and put them on the table and see what happens,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt’s real coming together of ideas and a sharing of past and history, and there’s often lots of laughter at these sessions.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt can be quite hilarious as people talk about what they remember about an artefact or their mum\u2019s and dad’s experience of it if they’re a bit younger.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ms Graystone said the sessions were designed to be welcoming.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe basic premise is to take away that focus on conversing and give you something to talk about,\u201d she said. \u201cTo provide you with a prompt.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt’s really friendly, it’s not like presentation. I ran one recently that was about home and beauty, the joy and laughter was wonderful.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe ended up talking about putting on your Sunday best and going to the fair. Everyone had recollections of that sort of thing, doing your hair and putting on your stockings.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt’s a sharing of stories which is lovely and warm, and often hilarious.\u201d<\/p>\n
The event runs from 2.30 to 3.30pm on Thursday 22 June at Heathcote Library, 125 High Street.<\/p>\n
