{"id":90422,"date":"2023-07-02T04:56:51","date_gmt":"2023-07-01T18:56:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/mcivortimes\/?p=90422"},"modified":"2023-06-29T11:12:23","modified_gmt":"2023-06-29T01:12:23","slug":"stories-and-music-to-tell-meaningful-tales","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/mcivortimes\/news\/stories-and-music-to-tell-meaningful-tales\/","title":{"rendered":"Stories and music to tell meaningful tales"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>AUSTRALIAN music veteran David Bridie is touring his new album <em>It\u2019s Been a While Since Our Last Correspondence <\/em>with a stop scheduled at the Bendigo Bank Theatre next week.<\/p>\n<p>The album is a combination of spoken word and music and it was something Bridie said he was inspired to do.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI&#8217;ve quite liked other artists who have done something like this in the past,\u201d he said. \u201cLike the Talking Heads and Laurie Anderson.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI liked the idea of curating and choosing who was going to write and speak their stories. I&#8217;m really happy with the array of artists that I\u2019ve got to do that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A former frontman of Not Drowning, Waving and My Friend the Chocolate Cake, Bridie said he hit up his contact list to find the best stories and storytellers he knew.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt&#8217;s a lot of friends on the album,\u201d he said. \u201cI\u2019m friends with Kutcha Edwards, I&#8217;ve worked with Catherine Deveny and Anthony Morgan in the past.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDamian Callinan I&#8217;ve known for years, and I&#8217;ve worked with, so it&#8217;s a range of comedians and actors and writers I know.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>With a diverse mix of creative voices, Bridie said some of the artists on the album have important stories to tell.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFarhad Bandesh, I met up on Manus Island on a trip up to Papua New Guinea,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe was in the detention centre up there and he is a Kurdish artist and activist who\u2019s now in Melbourne and his story is phenomenal.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHis and Kutcha\u2019s stories are just these real, vital, and potent Australian stories. It was wonderful to be able to have them on the record and it was great to put some music to it as well.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For the show itself, Bridie said some of his friends will come along to perform from the latest album, but there\u2019s also a large back catalogue of music to choose from.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe songs are from over a 30, 34, 35-year period long,\u201d he said. \u201cIt looks at the different writing at different stages of my life.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt different shows, we change the set list around a bit, but I always play some of the more well-known and popular tunes from my earlier bands.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>David Bridie will be performing at the Bendigo Bank Theatre on Friday 7 July with tickets available via <strong>bit.ly\/3r5pnXe<\/strong>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>AUSTRALIAN music veteran David Bridie is touring his new album It\u2019s Been a While Since Our Last Correspondence with a stop scheduled at the Bendigo Bank Theatre next week.
