VOLUNTEERS from Relay for Life Bendigo and the town\u2019s Lions Club were at the last weekend\u2019s Sheep and Wool Show selling raffle tickets to raise money for Cancer Council.<\/p>\n
Prizes included one of three getaways with seven nights\u2019 accommodation in Port Douglas.<\/p>\n
The raffle will be this year\u2019s only fundraising effort as Relay for Life walk has been postponed due to ongoing implications from COVID restrictions.<\/p>\n
The next relay will take place on the 20 April 2024.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s a fun event,\u201d said Peter Muhling, Lions Club Bendigo president. \u201cPeople run in teams and can dress up.”<\/p>\n
The joint efforts have raised approximately 3.7 million dollars in the 21-year history of Relay for Life in Bendigo.<\/p>\n
Athol Fredrick from Relay for Life Bendigo said proceeds go directly to Cancer Council, and ongoing support from the Lions Club included a $1000 donation towards this year\u2019s raffle.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s a matter of giving back and doing what we can to help the cause,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Raffle tickets will be on sale until 9 September and winners will be announced at a charity dinner on the same night.<\/p>\n
\u201cVisitors are welcome, especially potential members,\u201d said Mr Muhling.<\/p>\n
