SUGAR fiends look out!<\/p>\n
A new event celebrating the sweet creations from some of the region\u2019s bakers and sweet makers is coming to Bendigo on Sunday 30 June.<\/p>\n
Visitors will be treated to handcrafted chocolates, fresh pastries, and cr\u00e8me brulee that\u2019s blow-torched before their eyes.<\/p>\n
Originator of the event Bendigo chef Sonia Anthony said the market will bring together nine local women known for their sugared creations.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s basically a pop-up sweet market with everyone doing the things that they\u2019re really good at and just having fun,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Anthony said she hoped people would get to know more of the talented producers in the region.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe were voted a UNESCO city of gastronomy and people often think high end restaurants but it\u2019s about all the other people doing amazing things as well.\u201d<\/p>\n
One of the women taking part is chocolate artist Sue Schrieber, also known as Choclartiste.<\/p>\n
For the Choclartiste, the joy of her work comes from talking to people and showing them how to savour chocolate.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe true way to enjoy it is to let it melt on your tongue,\u201d she said. \u201cWe should make it last and engage all the senses.\u201d<\/p>\n
Jodie Pillinger of Blooms bakery in Harcourt will also be in attendance to showcase her breads and pastries which are baked in a 100-year-old Scotch oven.<\/p>\n
Pillinger said she came into the art of pastry making by accident but is now known for her fruit loaf.<\/p>\n
Sweet Sisters will be held on 30 July from 11am to 2pm at 31 View Street, across the road from Rosalind Park.<\/p>\n
Dessert lovers are encouraged to bring along a picnic blanket to sit and savour their treats in the park.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
