MORE than forty roles with electricity providers Powercor and CitiPower are available in the biggest apprenticeship recruitment drive in a decade being undertaken by the utilities.<\/p>\n
Recruitment staff are looking for people who love a challenge and want to be part of the companies move towards a clean energy future.<\/p>\n
Successful candidates will take part in a four-year apprenticeship as line workers, cable jointers and substation electricians, or in traineeships for protection and control testers and designers.<\/p>\n
Roles are available statewide in reginal areas including Ballarat, Bendigo, Geelong, Maryborough, Echuca, Colac, Kyneton, Shepparton, Mildura, Warrnambool and Horsham as well as Melbourne.<\/p>\n
All TAFE tuition fees and tools will be paid for by the utilities as part of the apprenticeships.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe right candidates will be team players, have a commitment to safety and want to make a difference in the communities they live and work in,\u201d said Ross Young, head of field services at Powercor.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe roles suit people who enjoy working outdoors and at heights, in all types of weather, and who have a passion for hands-on learning.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mr Young said the apprenticeships are a unique opportunity.<\/p>\n
\u201cNo two days are the same in these roles,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou\u2019ll also be working on everything from major infrastructure builds, to supporting the transition to cleaner energy, to responding to natural disasters and weather events.\u201d<\/p>\n
Applicants must have completed or be completing year 11 VCE or a VCAL equivalent and passed general maths\/numeracy or have completed or be completing a pre-apprenticeship TAFE training course in electrotechnology.<\/p>\n
