A MELBOURNE-based quintet will be performing this Saturday at Langley Estate.<\/p>\n
Ensemble Liber is made up of three Australian musicians and two Korean guests in the country for the occasion.<\/p>\n
The group is made up of pianist, Yuna Kang, two violinists, Ryeong-eun Jang and Kye Yim Loh, violist Haram Kim, and cellist Josh Dema.<\/p>\n
Mr Loh said the hourlong program will include pieces by Johann Sebastian Bach, Astor Piazzolla, and Ernst von Dohn\u00e1nyi.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re showcasing a really varied type of program with some more intense serious music like Bach, and then more fun stuff with the Piazzolla, which is more of an Argentinian tango style,\u201d said Loh.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt really can be for anyone interested in classical music, it\u2019s for all ages. It\u2019s not really super serious or specific.\u201d<\/p>\n
Loh said he is most looking forward to performing the last piece by Dohn\u00e1nyi.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s very, very dramatic. It’s over the top, very tender in some moments,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cDohn\u00e1nyi was actually pretty not well known during his time, kind of overshadowed by other composers, so that\u2019s one of the main reasons we decided to choose this piece.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ensemble Liber\u2019s members mostly earn a living through teaching music, but Loh said they enjoy coming together to bring about high-quality performances when able to.<\/p>\n
Although the group first began collaborating in 2018, the pandemic put a halt to things, and this will be their first similar show since 2019.<\/p>\n
All members studied music at the University of Melbourne or the University of Ulsan in South Korea, or a combination of both.<\/p>\n
Kang also studied at the Chopin University of Music in Poland, and Dema at DePaul University\u2019s School of Music in Chicago.<\/p>\n
