{"id":91549,"date":"2023-09-01T04:47:28","date_gmt":"2023-08-31T18:47:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/mcivortimes\/?p=91549"},"modified":"2023-09-01T09:24:18","modified_gmt":"2023-08-31T23:24:18","slug":"saints-brace-to-face-demons-heat","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/mcivortimes\/sport\/saints-brace-to-face-demons-heat\/","title":{"rendered":"Saints brace to face Demons heat"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>HEATHCOTE is bracing for a red-hot contest with White Hills in the Bendigo Bank Heathcote DFNL senior footy second semi-final on Saturday at Colbinabbin.<\/p>\n<p>At stake is being first to the grand final to be played on 16 September at Huntly\u2019s Strauch Reserve.<\/p>\n<p>After finishing the home and away series on top of the ladder, Heathcote had the luxury of a rest as the finals kicked off last weekend.<\/p>\n<p>Saints\u2019 coach Andrew Saladino was a keen observer as White Hills dismantled North Bendigo in the qualifying final at Pigeon Park in Heathcote\u2019s Barrack Reserve.<\/p>\n<p>The Demons set up a showdown with the Saints by beating the Bulldogs by 40 points.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMost of their A-grade players were in top form,\u201d Saladino said of a White Hills team that includes gun forwards Kaiden Antonowicz and Liam Bartels.<\/p>\n<p>This season\u2019s meetings between the Saints and Demons stand at one-all.<\/p>\n<p>In round three, White Hills won a two-point thriller on its turf at Winslow Constructors Oval.<\/p>\n<p>The return match in the 12th round ended in a 29-point for a Heathcote team which was without key forwards Corey Grindlay and Shannon Dowsett.<\/p>\n<p>Both will be primed for the second semi-final.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA key to our game will be playing a consistent four quarters,\u201d said Saladino. \u201cWe had one bad quarter in a six-goal loss to North Bendigo.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA bad second quarter by North Bendigo in the qualifying final meant White Hills was able to control most of the second half.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_91551\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-91551\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-91551\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/25\/2023\/08\/PDW_8221-Enhanced-NR-web-600x380.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"380\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-91551\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">When the two teams met under lights in round three White Hills took the win in a two-point squeaker.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>There will be many crucial matchups in Saturday\u2019s showdown with the Demons.<\/p>\n<p>Among them will be Bill Direen against Antonowicz who kicked off the finals by kicking a match-high four goals.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBill put in a great effort to keep Kaiden goalless last time we played White Hills.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt will be another big test for Bill, but for all of our defence.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A talented on-ball division for Heathcote is brilliantly led by Braden Padmore, Jesse Davies and Liam Jacques.<\/p>\n<p>The pace and skill of captain Codie Price off half-back is another major weapon for a Heathcote team which had a 13-3 record in the run to the finals action.<\/p>\n<p>In week one of the finals, Heathcote\u2019s under 18s were in action on Pigeon Park, going down to White Hills by 28 points.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s not all lost for the young Saints, though, with the club having the double chance and back in action at Elmore on Sunday against Huntly.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Under 18s<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>White Hills 8.9 (57)<\/p>\n<p>Heathcote 4.5 (29)<\/p>\n<p>GOALS: White Hills: H.
