A JOURNEY back to the 80s awaits as Girton Grammar\u2019s middle school students\u2019 adaptation of the films and subsequent TV show Fame takes to the stage.<\/p>\n
Fame Jr is being put on by a cast of 60 students from years 7 to 9 and follows a group of performing arts high school students in New York City in the 1980s.<\/p>\n
This production marks the 14th that drama teacher Joanne Christie has directed at Girton.<\/p>\n
She said the story focuses on the characters\u2019 journey of self-discovery as they pursue fame.<\/p>\n
\u201cActors need to learn about themselves,\u201d she said. \u201cDancers and musicians must excel in styles they don\u2019t like.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd it all comes together for a spectacular final Senior Year performance, where they reflect on their growth.\u201d<\/p>\n
The overarching themes of the production relate to the experience of high school students as they grapple with ambition, student life, and the daily struggles of being a teenager.<\/p>\n
Girton Grammar\u2019s cast of drama students will drive the narrative with their acting, singing, and dancing.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe students have loved learning the choreography, and the ability to showcase these skills to the audience is a real driving factor for this highly energetic ensemble,\u201d said Christie.<\/p>\n
\u201cAll of the cast are incredibly proud of the body of work they have developed, and it means everything for them to perform this for their families and the wider community.\u201d<\/p>\n
