COMEDY staple Heath Franklin is among this year\u2019s line-up at the Bendigo Comedy Festival.<\/p>\n

Known for his parody of Mark \u2018Chopper\u2019 Read, Franklin will step on stage at the Engine Room as himself in his new show Out of Character.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a very similar style of comedy,\u201d said Franklin.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think people are kind of surprised that there\u2019s a lot of Heath Franklin in the Chopper character, it\u2019s not like it\u2019s worlds apart, I\u2019m not doing physical theatre in a black unitard or anything.\u201d<\/p>\n

Out of Character<\/em> is Franklin\u2019s first full-length show where he tells jokes in his own voice.<\/p>\n

The comedian said it had given him the chance to explore different themes like parenting and pop-culture references that Chopper wouldn\u2019t get.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was just a case of having all these things, these funny ideas and jokes that I\u2019ve had for ages that just don\u2019t work coming out of Chopper\u2019s mouth,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere were a couple of times where I did some stuff with chopper shows that wasn\u2019t very chopper-y you know, and it was Heath behind the moustache trying to get out.\u201d<\/p>\n

Franklin will play at the Engine Room on Friday 13 October but the comedian is not worried.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t think I\u2019m really superstitious,\u201d he said, \u201cI\u2019m not really worried about lightning striking the theatre or a zombie apocalypse or anything like that but if it does happen it will be memorable.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd if I survive it then I\u2019ve got material for a show next time.\u201d<\/p>\n
