SIX locations in the Bendigo region have received money from the Federal Government\u2019s Black Spot funding program.<\/p>\n
Announced on Monday by Member for Bendigo, Lisa Chesters, the sites including locations in Axe Creek, Maiden Gully, White Hills and Quarry Hill.<\/p>\n
\u201cBlack Spot projects target areas where crashes are occurring or are at risk of occurring,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Federal Government has a major role to play in supporting councils to ensure our road network is safe and that\u2019s why I\u2019m so proud to see priority projects in regional communities selected.\u201d<\/p>\n
In Maiden Gully more than $1 million will go towards installing safety barriers along sections of Edwards Road between Kathleen Terrace and Dile Road.<\/p>\n
Along Axe Creek Road, $1.692 million is being spent on a range of upgrades including speed reductions, shoulder and intersection works, safety barriers installations and the construction of traffic islands at Strathfieldsaye and Sutton Grange roads.<\/p>\n
\u201cAcross the state, the safety investments will make Victorian roads safer for all road users,\u201d said Federal Assistant Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, Carol Brown.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn announcing this project, this Government recognises the importance of working with the Victorian Government to partner with local councils to deliver the program in the state.\u201d<\/p>\n
A further $1.179 million has been allocated across metropolitan Bendigo for works including traffic islands, raised intersections, median strips, speed reductions, and footpath works.<\/p>\n
