{"id":92119,"date":"2023-10-08T04:57:28","date_gmt":"2023-10-07T17:57:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/mcivortimes\/?p=92119"},"modified":"2023-10-08T09:55:18","modified_gmt":"2023-10-07T22:55:18","slug":"dance-group-bringing-thank-you-show","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/mcivortimes\/news\/dance-group-bringing-thank-you-show\/","title":{"rendered":"Dance group bringing thank you show"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A MELBOURNE-based Ukrainian dance group will be performing their show, <em>Ukrainian Soul, Australian Soil, <\/em>in Bendigo as way of showing gratitude to Australia.<\/p>\n<p>Artistic director and choreographer at Lehenda Ukrainian Dance Company, Melanie Dechnicz, said the group also wants to teach people as much as possible about Ukrainian dance and culture.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe thought it would be a really lovely opportunity to come and thank the Australian Government and Thales Australia, and all the people in Australia who are responsible for manufacturing those Bushmaster protective vehicles,\u201d said Dechnicz.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe perform Ukrainian dance as much as we can around Australia, and we\u2019ve toured internationally.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a really amazing dance style that\u2019s really unique and energetic and uses a lot of technique from classical dance, and also acrobatics for the boys, and it\u2019s full of great energy and excitement.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As part of the two act performance there will also be video interviews of some of the dancers, teachers, choir conductors, as well as the president of the Federation of Ukrainians, and herself.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEvery region has its own dance style, like costumes, music,\u201d said Dechnicz. \u201cIt\u2019s kind of like putting ballet, tap, and jazz next to each other and saying they all come from the same place.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s really diverse which is why I actually really love Ukrainian dance because there\u2019s so much diversity within the country.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is really high energy and colourful costumes, and it\u2019s quick and exciting.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Act One of <em>Ukrainian Soul, Australian Soil<\/em> is a story about the founding of Kyiv, inspired by the beginning of the war.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor as long as I remember, Ukraine has always been fighting for independence and this piece kind of represents that founding and discovery and building of Kiev, and then that constant battle to keep the country, and then the victory coming out of that,\u201d said Dechnicz.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUkraine has so much to offer, and it\u2019s got such a beautiful culture, and we\u2019d love for everybody to come and actually experience that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>Ukranian Soul, Australian Soil <\/em>will be at the Ulumbarra Theatre on Sunday 22 October and tickets can be purchased via <strong>lehenda.com.au\/ukrainiansoul.<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A MELBOURNE-based Ukrainian dance group will be performing their show, Ukrainian Soul, Australian Soil, in Bendigo as way of showing gratitude to Australia.
