FOR anyone who has dreamed of being part of a stage production, Mudbrick Motley Theatre will be holding workshops during October.<\/p>\n
The group has obtained the rights to The Old People are Revolting<\/em>, a comedy play by Devon Williamson with a performance planned for April 2024.<\/p>\n \u201cThis comedy is set in a retirement village somewhere in Australia (possibly Heathcote) around the turn of this century,\u201d said Maree Hingston, founder of Mudbrick Motley Theatre.<\/p>\n \u201cA group of seniors learn that their local council have taken their rates subsidy away, after they have spent their savings investing in the village as their retirement haven.<\/p>\n \u201cThis sets them on a path of resistance, revolt and mayhem which attracts the attention of a local reporter who becomes an unwilling ally, but who eventually helps to make them local heroes.\u201d<\/p>\n The play has received positive reviews with sell-out audiences, throughout Australia, New Zealand, UK, Canada and USA.<\/p>\n \u201cThere are plenty of belly laughs in this, sometimes bawdy, production and we intend to include our local singing group to give the show more of a cabaret style interpretation,\u201d said Hingston.<\/p>\n \u201cWe are inviting anyone who would like to be involved to attend workshops designed to make this production a reality.<\/p>\n \u201cThere will be a chance to learn about the characters, read a little of the play, discuss the content and the staging, or just sit back and observe the way in which a production can be brought to fruition.<\/p>\n \u201cWe need support for this endeavour so we can bring some laughter back into our community and create an opportunity for social contact which many have missed in recent months.\u201d<\/p>\n The first workshop will be at the Guide Hall on Sunday 15 October, from 2pm to 3pm, and the second on Saturday 28 October.
