ZONTA Bendigo has donated to Women\u2019s Health Loddon Mallee to reduce period poverty across the region.<\/p>\n
A portion of funds raised by the group has gone towards the purchase of 130 packs of period underwear, and menstrual cups, which Women\u2019s Health Loddon Mallee\u2019s Well Women\u2019s Clinic nurse, Elise Kornmann, will distribute to clients.<\/p>\n
Zonta Bendigo vice-president Kathryn Patarica said club members value the opportunity to provide the reusable supplies, which otherwise are expensive for young people and adults with tight budgets.<\/p>\n
\u201cSupplying products to WHLM enables us to reach a more diverse group of women from different cultural backgrounds.\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe anticipate that our one-off spend will enable the Well Women\u2019s Clinic to distribute them via the adolescent health workshop and to older women as they see fit.<\/p>\n
\u201cLoss of education due to a lack of menstrual health resources impacts many students from low-income families.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s important no female student feels like they can\u2019t fully participate in all aspects of school life because they do not have access to menstrual hygiene products.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ms Kornmann was one of a few of the organisation\u2019s staff who accepted the donation, alongside WHLM CEO Tricia Currie.<\/p>\n
\u201cThese products are very welcome and will enhance the support we are able to give to clients in need,\u201d Ms Kornmann said.<\/p>\n
