AEROBIC gymnast Ruby Conti capped hundreds of hours training when she represented Australia at this month\u2019s Plovdiv Cup in Bulgaria.<\/p>\n
The year 11 student at Bendigo\u2019s Girton Grammar marked her final international meet at junior level by being among more than 500 elite gymnasts from 19 countries.<\/p>\n
Conti\u2019s outstanding skill earned the Maxine Crouch Trust Fund award in Bendigo\u2019s Sports Star of the Year awards for 2019-20.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s an honour to wear the green and gold, and be selected by the Australian Gymnastics committee to compete at the Plovdiv Cup,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s an always an exhilarating experience to participate,\u201d she said of being at one of her sport\u2019s biggest events\u201d<\/p>\n
A fall in training meant Conti had to lessen the difficulty of her routine and while she ultimately missed a place in the top 20, she said she was rapt to complete a clean routine.<\/p>\n
\u201cTraining with the Bulgarian national team was a great experience,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Conti y first represented Australia as a 10-year-old in the United States and has also competed in Czech Republic, Portugal and Japan.<\/p>\n
Her lead-up to the Plovdiv Cup included being captain of Girton Grammar\u2019s teams at the AeroSchools National Championships on the Gold Coast.<\/p>\n
All of Girton\u2019s teams gained a top six placing in their section.<\/p>\n
It was an intense training workload for Conti as she prepared to compete in Bulgaria.<\/p>\n
She was in was in Melbourne four times a week where she had three-hour training sessions coach with Angela McMillan.<\/p>\n
There were also Bendigo-based training sessions at Palmer\u2019s Gym and F45.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
