VISITORS from as far away as Melbourne enjoyed perfect weather for the Australian Plant Society Heathcote\u2019s second annual open day last Sunday.<\/p>\n
Four gardens were open to the public, showcasing the benefits of native gardening and raising funds for the Heathcote Native Garden project.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was more about promoting native gardening than raising money,\u201d said APS secretary Tania Biagioni, \u201calthough our project is moving forward positively.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe wanted people to know you don\u2019t have to be a slave to your garden; there are lots of smart ways to enhance local conditions.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe can all learn from each other.\u201d<\/p>\n
Lorraine Tinker who opened her garden River Gum Place with husband Allan, said the day was \u201cwonderful.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWe had visitors from Heathcote and surrounding towns, and some from Melbourne,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cEveryone has been very complimentary and amazed at the variety of native plants and what can be achieved.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ms Biagioni praised the four couples who opened their gardens. \u201cYour gardens are spectacular.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe plants, the wildlife and the sanctuaries you all created are inspiring.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd we are blessed to live in a community where so many are interested and support us.\u201d<\/p>\n
