MANY audience members were moved to tears at the Evening of Remembrance at the RSL Hall last Friday.<\/p>\n
Jeffrey Arthur, Maree Hingston and Major Michael Carroll paid tribute to fallen and past service men and women through music, poetry and song to those who took part in all wars.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is a chance to reflect and remember,\u201d said Major Carroll. \u201cWar should never happen.\u201d<\/p>\n
Money raised from the event was donated to Legacy.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was a truly moving occasion,\u201d said attendee Mary Wallace. \u201cBoth the music and poetry were lovely.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe second half consisted of Michael\u2019s poem which in itself is a superb piece of work, but it was brought to life and made even more special by Maree and Michael reading it.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere were a few tears in the audience.\u201d<\/p>\n
While expectations for the evening were varied, the final outcome was appreciated by audience members.<\/p>\n
\u201cI wasn\u2019t sure what I expected the evening to be but it certainly was something special,\u201d said Linda Cornelisson.<\/p>\n
\u201cSome familiar songs in Jeff\u2019s own style, poems and writings about war and people\u2019s experiences, and then the final piece.<\/p>\n
\u201cMaree and Michael gave a rendition of one of Michael\u2019s poems that had many of us in tears. Well done all.\u201d<\/p>\n
Major Carroll, Ms Hingston and Mr Arthur want people to be reminded of the horrors of war in the hope that they can learn from history so it is not repeated.<\/p>\n
It was an message not lost on one attendee.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was such a privilege to be in the audience,\u201d said Sally Heley. \u201cVery professional and amazing performances by Jeff, Maree and Michael.\u201d<\/p>\n
