Mitchell Shire has a new mayor with Cr Louise Bannister elected in to the role last week.<\/p>\n
At the same time Cr Nathan Clark was elected as deputy-mayor.<\/p>\n
Cr Bannister grew up on a farm near Seymour and has lived in Mitchell Shire for the past 10 years with her partner Patrick and son Hamish.<\/p>\n
She said she\u2019s keen to work with the community to advocate for much needed infrastructure and services in Mitchell Shire.<\/p>\n
\u201cI want to take this opportunity to show people that you can be an advocate and a voice for your community along with the other important aspects of your life,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur council needs to reflect the diverse nature of our communities. More ideas mean better outcomes for Mitchell Shire.<\/p>\n
\u201cI hope to encourage more people to consider running for election for local government.\u201d<\/p>\n
Cr Clark lives in Kilmore with his wife and two daughters and said he\u2019s particularly concerned with the liveability of communities as they grow.<\/p>\n
He also said he passionate about the history of Kilmore and dealing with the impact of heavy vehicles on the town\u2019s main street.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn the final year of the council term I hope to encourage a greater appetite for risk in the organisation,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere are many opportunities to be explored and I look forward to speaking to and hearing from the community about them.<\/p>\n
\u201cI will also spend the year ahead encouraging high quality candidates to come forward and represent Mitchell at the next election.\u201d<\/p>\n
Outgoing Mayor Cr Fiona Stevens congratulated Cr Bannister and Cr Clark and thanked fellow councillors for their support during her term as mayor.<\/p>\n
\u201cI must acknowledge the dedication of my fellow councillors and council staff who have worked tirelessly throughout the year,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
