JOBS in the care and support sector will be on display later this month at the Who Cares? jobs expo.<\/p>\n
Demand for staff in the care industry had increased at the last census date, with disability or aged carer, and childcare worker listed among the top 10 growing occupations in the state.<\/p>\n
Andrew Gibbs, lead regional coordinator for Boosting the Local Care Workforce Program and organiser of the Who Cares? jobs expo, said the care sector is recession proof.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is Victoria\u2019s largest employment sector, and it is projected to have continued growth,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The Who Cares? jobs expo aims to provide potential employees with an introduction into the different types of positions available in the care sector.<\/p>\n
\u201cSometimes people look at this sector and they don\u2019t see it as a career but there\u2019s plenty of people who do make a fulltime career out of working in the sector,\u201d Mr Gibbs said.<\/p>\n
Attendees at the expo will be able to speak with companies that are actively hiring and find out about training options from registered training organisations including TAFE Victoria.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe opportunity is there for potential workers to actually talk to people who are in the sector, who have a good understanding of the roles and responsibilities,\u201d Mr Gibbs said.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd they\u2019ll also talk about their organisations, their values and their culture, and just to give people a general overview of what it is like and what the rewards can be.\u201d<\/p>\n
For people who are new to the workforce or seeking a part-time job, Mr Gibbs said there are positions available that don\u2019t require qualifications, as well as some that will provide training.<\/p>\n
\u201cA lot of people can start as kitchen hands, cleaners, support workers but then there\u2019s office work in there, there\u2019s receptionist, there\u2019s also back of house, plenty of administrative occupations,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Who Cares? will be on the at the Bendigo Regional Tennis Centre on 29 November from 10am to 12.30pm.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
