ORGANISERS of a high tea held at the RSL Hall last Sunday in support of Pancare said they were delighted with the amount raised.<\/p>\n
One hundred people attended the event, exceeding last year\u2019s attendance and raising a combined $6330.<\/p>\n
Rhonda Linnell, licensee at the post office and newsagency, began fundraising for Pancare after moving to Heathcote six years ago and losing a cousin to pancreatic cancer.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe were absolutely thrilled with the support we received from the community and local businesses,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was also really helpful to have Joanna Fanos, a counsellor from the Pancare Foundation speak to those in attendance about the services they can offer to those affected by not only pancreatic cancer but also stomach, oesophageal and liver cancer.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe feedback we received has been incredibly positive. So many people enthusiastically looking forward to next year.<\/p>\n
\u201cAll food was donated so 100 per cent of the ticket price goes to the foundation.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are so grateful to our family, Post Office Staff and friends for working so incredibly hard to ensure everyone had a fabulous time.\u201d<\/p>\n
Volunteer, Ardi Davis, said she was \u201cblown away\u201d by the support received.<\/p>\n
\u201cEvery business and individual we asked gave or did something,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey have been incredible. It couldn\u2019t happen without so many people helping out, from the volunteers helping in the kitchen and serving, those attending and everyone who donated prizes.\u201d<\/p>\n
Many of the people attending said they had been touched by cancer and supporting the event was their way of helping.<\/p>\n
\u201cA dear friend of 50 years is currently undergoing bladder cancer treatment in Queensland,\u201d said Nancy Miller.<\/p>\n
\u201cComing here to this activity today is my way of giving support for all the care he is receiving.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
