LOCALS have rallied to the call for more performers at the Lions Club Community Carols after organisers feared there were not enough acts to hold the event.<\/p>\n
Lions Club members moved to cancel the carols recently after they decided it would not be feasible to go ahead with the limited responses received from a request for performers.<\/p>\n
\u201cOnly four acts initially responded then overnight we had a list of more than 25, once people realised we would have to cancel,\u201d said club member Lorraine Spiers.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe were disappointed after yearlong preparations for the event, as risk assessments, paperwork and negotiations with council start months in advance.<\/p>\n
\u201cFortunately, we now have enough performers to go ahead.\u201d<\/p>\n
Among the performers this year will be the Heathcote Ukulele Group, the Marist Brass Band from Bendigo, local schools, and kindergarten.<\/p>\n
Music teacher Mariah McCarthy will be performing as well as many of her students, and other individual performers.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is extremely heartening to see our community rally around in support of our Heathcote Lions Club and Community Carols,\u201d said Tania Malavisi, who has been assisting the Lions Club.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey have pulled together a solid list of performers willing to share their talents and festive spirit.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt sometimes takes the risk of losing something truly unique and close to our hearts to realise exactly what an essential part of our community spirit and identity it is.<\/p>\n
\u201cI would like to thank the Heathcote Lions Club and their volunteers for their generosity of spirit and good will in ensuring our carols go ahead again this year.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Community Carols will be held tomorrow at Barrack Reserve from 6.30pm.<\/p>\n
