CHILDREN from across the region will be able to try their hand at fishing over summer with the State Government providing Little Anglers Kits to primary school students.<\/p>\n
The initiative is part of a Government pledge to fund fishing, boating, piers, and aquaculture.<\/p>\n
The kit includes a fishing rod, reel with line, a tackle box and a Kids\u2019 Guide to Fishing<\/em>, which presents the basics of fishing safety.<\/p>\n The book includes colour photographs of animals children may see when they go fishing and also tips about bait, fishing seasons and a list of good fishing spots.<\/p>\n \u201cVictorians love to fish,\u201d said Minister for Outdoor Recreation, Steve Dimopoulos. \u201cRecreational fishing is a terrific sport for people of all ages, skills and abilities.<\/p>\n \u201cOur Little Angler Kits will inspire young Victorians to put their screens down and get outside with friends and family.\u201d<\/p>\n The initiative is costing $1.5 million with the aim of encouraging children to get outdoors during the warmer months.<\/p>\n The distribution of the kits is being managed by the Victorian Fisheries Authority and the organisation has also created a video of step-by-step instructions on how to fish.<\/p>\n Mr Dimopoulos said it is important to continue Victoria\u2019s fishing tradition.<\/p>\n \u201cVictoria\u2019s fisheries are in great shape for the next generation to enjoy thanks to our record fish stocking, a net-free Port Phillip Bay and Gippsland Lakes, more reefs and better facilities,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n \u201cWe\u2019re looking forward to seeing Victoria\u2019s next generation of fishers set up along our waterways this summer, learning new skills and having a great time in nature.\u201d<\/p>\n <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" CHILDREN from across the region will be able to try their hand at fishing over summer with the State Government providing Little Anglers Kits to primary school students.
