AS the warmest months approach and the sun dries up shallow bodies of water, wild animals may struggle to keep hydrated.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Shelter operator at Wildlife Rescue and Information Network, Brenda Argus, said there are a few things people can do around their homes to help thirsty creatures.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cEspecially in over 30-degree heat, because a lot of dams and areas where they usually get their water will be dried out,\u201d she said.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAll sorts of different animals need their water for dehydration, even little bees.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Ms Argus suggested putting containers of water of different sizes around your home and checking them several times a day to make sure no one has fallen in.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThey can put out different depths of bowls of water for different sized animals,\u201d she said. \u201cAnd they need to put out rocks or a stick in the water so that the smaller animals can get in, like the bees, and have a drink as well.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIf an animal falls into the water it helps them get out of the water as well.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Shaded areas under low trees or bushes can be good places to put containers of water.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cA good place to put the bowls is under a low tree or bush so small animals can escape if a bigger animal comes along, they\u2019ve got somewhere to go and hide,\u201d said Ms Argus.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

While putting water out for wildlife can be a good idea, Ms Argus advises against doing the same thing with food.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThey can find their own food and their natural feed is full of the nutrients and minerals and that they need,\u201d she said.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWhereas if we feed them, they\u2019re not getting those natural nutrients and they can become sick and deformed from eating human food. \u201c<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

If you find a dehydrated animal this summer, Ms Argus recommended moving it into the shade and contacting an animal rescue service.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
