FATHER and daughter duo, Daniel and Daphne Warburton, recently attained their black belt grading at the Heathcote Taekwondo Club.<\/p>\n
At the same time several other students also received coloured belt gradings at an event that was attended by Grand Master Jack Rozinszky from the Melbourne Taekwondo Centre.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis grading was fantastic,\u201d said instructor Wayne Ettwell, \u201cOur last one for the year.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt has taken several years with all the interruptions due to COVID, so Daphne and Daniel\u2019s black belts were well overdue.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Heathcote club is a division of the Melbourne Taekwondo Centre, which started in 1963 by Rozinszky and recognised as one of the most successful dojangs in Australia.<\/p>\n
Students from the centre competed in the Sydney, Beijing, London, and Rio Olympic Games.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Heathcote branch is one of a number throughout the state, and will celebrate 30 years, in 2024,\u201d said Ettwell.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur club has over 30 members ranging up from five years of age.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Korean martial art of taekwondo aims to promote self-discipline and confidence while also improving co-ordination and motor skills.<\/p>\n
\u201cEveryone is welcome,\u201d said Ettwell. \u201cWe train on Thursday nights at Barrack Reserve, starting at 6pm.<\/p>\n
