If your New Year resolution is to join a group or learn a new skill, there are plenty of options in Heathcote.<\/p>\n
From arts, crafts and creative writing to service clubs and fitness groups, you\u2019re sure to find something that interests you.<\/p>\n
Heathcote Artists Inc meet on Mondays at the golf club from 9am to 11.30am where members enjoy creating works in various mediums and everyone is welcome.<\/p>\n
HAI Sessions will resume on 8 January and contact secretary Fiona Hanlon on 0411 110 891.<\/p>\n
Pizza Box Poets meet on the third Sunday of every month at Palling Bros Brewery starting at 3.30pm.<\/p>\n
Attendees read their own rhyming, modern or traditional poems or can just listen and appreciate the work of others.<\/p>\n
For those who appreciate the beauty of native plants, the Australian Plants Society Heathcote, will resume meetings on 12 February at 7pm in the Senior Citizens rooms.<\/p>\n
The group has more than 30 members and everyone is welcome.<\/p>\n
When it comes to Heathcote Community House most things are off until early January.<\/p>\n
\u201cOnly Services Australia will be available at Community House for those who need it over the Christmas break,\u201d said executive officer Vicki Forde.<\/p>\n
\u201cThen the house will fully open again on Monday 8 January.\u201d<\/p>\n
Enrolment for U3A will take place on Friday 2 February at the Guide Hall from 10.30am.<\/p>\n
U3A is part of a world-wide movement where retired and semi-retired people can enjoy a range of activities from yoga, writing and singing to gardening, movies and current affairs.<\/p>\n
Membership fees are $50 per person annually.<\/p>\n
Silver Star Line Dancers strut their stuff at the first Monday of the month at the RSL hall, starting at 12pm for absolute beginners and 1pm for beginners.<\/p>\n
There is also a group for beginners at the Tooborac Community Hall on Thursday evenings from 7.30pm to 9pm.<\/p>\n
Both groups will take a break during January but will resume on 5 February.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe groups are there for everyone,\u201d said instructor Janet Howden. \u201cWe dance, of course, and have a laugh, a chat and lots of fun.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Men\u2019s Shed, situated behind Heathcote Hospital, will be closed between Christmas and New Year but will resume on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 9am to 2pm, the following week.<\/p>\n
Anyone for tennis? Heathcote Tennis Club members are taking a short break for the holiday season.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur usual social hit schedule will start again on Sunday 7 January at 9.30am,\u201d said club secretary Vikki McNaughton, \u201cThen Tuesdays from 6pm and Wednesdays from 10-12.\u201d<\/p>\n
New members are always welcome at the Lions Club.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have a business meeting on the first Wednesday of each month and a dinner meeting at the Commercial Hotel on the third Wednesday,\u201d said club member Greg Spiers.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ll have a short break and start again on 17 January.<\/p>\n

And last, but not least, the Heathcote Writers\u2019 Playgroup meet every Tuesday at the Community House, from 1pm and will resume on 2 January.<\/p>\n
Members work on all types of writing projects from poetry and short stories to novels and memoirs.<\/p>\n
