AFTER eight years, the final MND Superchallenge Bowls event will be held on Australia Day this year at Heathcote Bowling Club, with organisers hoping it will be even bigger than in previous years.<\/p>\n

The event has raised more than $100,000 since it began in 2015.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is time to bring the MND Dennis Gleeson Superchallenge Bowls event to a close,\u201d said Heathcote Bowling Club secretary Peter Cunningham.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut not before one last hurrah.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is our intention to make this final event even bigger than in the past and we hope to raise another significant amount.\u201d<\/p>\n

A small but enthusiastic group of volunteers, the Never Give Up Group, was formed by members of the bowling club after one member was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe challenge was named in honour of popular local farmer, all-round sportsman and good bloke, Dennis Gleeson,\u201d said Mr Cunningham.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe event may pass into history but his memory will never fade.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll good things must come to an end, so it is with some sadness but also great pride in our achievement that the Dennis Gleeson Challenge will take to the greens for the last time.\u201d<\/p>\n

Following the tournament, an auction will be held with significant items for sale, including a Collingwood football jumper, signed by all grand final players.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will also have a raffle with the major prize a garden tools package from Total Tools, valued at $5000.\u201d<\/p>\n
