MORE than fifteen years ago, Heathcote local Peter Miller began making custom trailers and truck bodies for use as carnival alley attractions at shows and fates nationwide.<\/p>\n
Since in he\u2019s gone on to build a reputation for high quality workmanship that\u2019s drawn from this fifth-generation showman and industry knowledge.<\/p>\n
A quiet, modest man, he suggested his father, Charlie Miller, tell the story.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur family was based in Brisbane and travelled to shows all over the country,\u201d said Charlie, who works also works on the trailers.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs well as working at shows, my father built rides back when I was a boy that are still operating today.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe was well known for the quality of his work and inspectors were quick to sign off on the finished product.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey had to be good, you can\u2019t risk public safety. Peter and I inherited Dad\u2019s ethic and we like to make sure everything is spot on before leaving the factory.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Millers moved to Heathcote 20 years ago after a series of coincidences.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe road through Heathcote takes you everywhere,\u201d said Charlie. \u201cNo matter which shows we were going to, we passed through.<\/p>\n
\u201cThen, three times in a row we had to stop. Minor breakdowns and flat tyres. My wife found us a home here although it was a few more years before we settled.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Millers recently completed a project for Nadine Lakey from Toolleen.<\/p>\n
Built onto the back of a truck it has provision for selling showbags, sleeping quarters and kitchen facilities.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is a dream build made possible by Peter Miller\u2019s Custom Trailers,\u201d said Ms Lakey. \u201cIt lights up and has space for our showbags, novelties and toys.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe will be attending shows in February and continue to work and travel Australia until September.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy family has been travelling to shows for more than 45 years and this new truck brought a dream to reality.<\/p>\n
\u201cPeter and Charlie have been very accommodating and understanding of the particular details I asked for. Nothing is too much trouble.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Millers have already started on their next project and the next generation is already showing interest in show life.<\/p>\n
\u201cI couldn\u2019t be more proud of my kids and grandkids,\u201d said Charlie. \u201cAnd it\u2019s great they will be following in the family traditions.\u201d<\/p>\n
