SEGAFREDO\u2019S Bakery has been named as one of the top six country bakeries by the Royal Flying Doctor Service Victoria.<\/p>\n
Flying Doctor staff and volunteers were polled recently, asking them to share their favourite bakery and go-to sweet and savoury order.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Flying Doctor\u2019s DNA is based in rural and remote communities,\u201d said the organisation\u2019s manager of communication and brand and engagement Jonathan Green.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat means our staff and volunteers have true local knowledge, like, where to get the best pie or vanilla slice.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhile we received an overwhelming number of recommendations, ultimately six champions were crowned as an Official Refuelling Stop of the Flying Doctor.\u201d<\/p>\n
Elmore Bakery, Nooy\u2019s Cakes and Hot Bread Shop at Robinvale, Numurkah Bakery Caf\u00e9, Jack\u2019s Country Bakery in Sale and Sharp\u2019s Bakery at Birchip were also nominated.<\/p>\n
\u201cLocal bakeries are integral to many rural communities,\u201d said Mr Green.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey are often the first to put their hand up to sponsor local sporting teams and their noticeboards hold upcoming events and points of interest.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe walls are always covered in thank-you certificates from local organisations \u2013 they really are so much more than \u2018just a bakery\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n
Each week RFDS Victoria road crews travel hundreds of kilometres to deliver health, social and well-being care to rural communities, with country bakeries important refuelling stops.<\/p>\n
In the last financial year, RFDS Victoria road crews transported more than 58,000 patients by road, delivering primary health care services to rural communities.<\/p>\n
\u201cJust like bakeries, our RFDS Victoria road crews are heavily involved in their local communities,\u201d said Mr Green.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey live and work in these areas and they truly do care for the community in every sense.<\/p>\n
