{"id":94308,"date":"2024-01-26T04:57:08","date_gmt":"2024-01-25T17:57:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/mcivortimes\/?p=94308"},"modified":"2024-01-25T19:29:21","modified_gmt":"2024-01-25T08:29:21","slug":"new-way-to-play-on-offer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/mcivortimes\/news\/new-way-to-play-on-offer\/","title":{"rendered":"New way to play on offer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>BENDIGO Community Health Service is expanding its smalltalk program in 2024 to include free weekly playgroup sessions at Heathcote.<\/p>\n<p>The supported playgroup sessions will be held at Holy Rosary Primary School.<\/p>\n<p>smalltalk is a national program developed by the Parenting Research Centre, promoting strategies to enhance learning at home for children from birth to school age.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cStrategies covered in the playgroup sessions include being warm and gentle, and tuning in with children,\u201d said early childhood educator and group facilitator Tiffany Holschier.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe read together and engage children in interesting and stimulating activities, often using readily available resources.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPart of my job is to use recycled resources, so parents see they don\u2019t need a lot of toys or equipment to support their child\u2019s learning and development.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>smalltalk<\/em> is not just a playgroup, the program also helps parents build confidence in their parenting skills.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe recognise parents are the professionals when it comes to their children, but we are there to support them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ms Holschier said supported playgroups give parents the time to focus on interacting with their child, which does a lot for a child\u2019s learning and development.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>smalltalk<\/em> also includes ideas on how parents can look after themselves and will help build links with other families in Heathcote, as well as other services.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>smalltalk <\/em>playgroups are for families who include a parent aged 25 or less, a mother who has not completed high school, single parent families, and families who have less than 10 children\u2019s books in the home.<\/p>\n<p>Ms Holschier said families who face barriers in attending a playgroup may be eligible for <em>smalltalk<\/em> in-home support.<\/p>\n<p>Enrolments are now open and for information and bookings contact Tiffany Holschier on 0498 642 909 or <strong>tiffanyholschier@bchs.com.au<\/strong>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>BENDIGO Community Health Service is expanding its smalltalk program in 2024 to include free weekly playgroup sessions at Heathcote.
