Heathcote Brownie Guides will resume on Tuesday with a special pancake night.<\/p>\n
All girls aged 8-11 are welcome at the Guide Hall from 3.30pm to 5pm.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs we start back for 2024 on Shrove Tuesday, we are going to cook pancakes,\u201d said leader Laraine Leask.<\/p>\n
\u201cAfter that, the girls can contribute to the planning and let us know what they want to do each week.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey are all fantastic and come up with some great ideas. Leading up to the show in November we make decorated saucers and the girls love cooking.<\/p>\n
\u201cOne thing I always teach them is how to tie a reef knot. I tell them that if you can tie a reef knot, you\u2019ll use it all through your life.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ms Leask said that like many organisations the girl guides struggled during COVID.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re only now getting our straps back together. We have about 12 regulars and new members are always welcome.<\/p>\n
\u201cGuides is really good for girls. It empowers women and that\u2019s our motto. The lessons learnt will stay with the girls all their lives.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are flexible but we have a few rules and everyone learns to work together as a group.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere have been some terrific girls involved over the years and I know they all remember the good times they had at Guides.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ms Leask is assisted by Sian Virgona and they start each session with something to eat and drink before moving on to an activity.<\/p>\n
