MEMBERS of the Veteran Free Riders from Heathcote are looking forward to showing a classic 1981 Honda CM at Show and Shine events in the near future.<\/p>\n
The motorbike, donated by champion rider Tony White, has been restored by Middleton Motors.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe took the bike to Middleton\u2019s as they have a good motorbike mechanic there,\u201d said Veteran Free Riders member Dan Fitton.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen we went to pick it up and asked how much it cost, they told us not worry about it; it\u2019s for a good cause.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are all very grateful.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mr Fitton took the motorbike to Nathalia last week in preparation for the Labour Day weekend when Veteran Free Riders from all areas will come together.<\/p>\n
\u201cOver the weekend, injured vets will give the bike some cosmetic work, a good polish and shine, in readiness for some Show and Shine events,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt will be a great weekend.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Veterans Free Riders was formed three years ago and has nine members in Heathcote.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was the brainchild of the Aussie Vets Association and there are about 380 members now,\u201d said Mr Fitton.<\/p>\n
\u201cA passion for motorbikes and cars seems to permeate through the military and this helps to give veterans something to look forward to.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt brings isolated vets together and gets people off the couch.\u201d<\/p>\n
The group has a team that regularly races in Broadford.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe throw away the rule book,\u201d said Mr Fitton. \u201cWe use bikes and cars because some members are amputees.<\/p>\n
