TWO members of the local fire brigade visited Heathcote Primary School last week to meet with students.<\/p>\n
As a follow up HPS pupils later visited the Heathcote Fire Station to see the trucks and try out some equipment.<\/p>\n
\u201cMost of the questions were great and well thought out,\u201d said recruitment officer Peter Duncan.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe kids showed lots of interest and we might have some future volunteers among them.\u201d<\/p>\n
Questions ranged details about the types of fires the brigade attends to the equipment on the trucks and in the many pockets of their suits.<\/p>\n
\u201cOver the coming weeks, the students will be doing projects about bushfire prevention,\u201d said teacher Rebecca Someville.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think they have gained lots of information to help them.\u201d<\/p>\n
On their visit to the fire station, students viewed the fire trucks and were shown where all the equipment is kept.<\/p>\n
\u201cEach vehicle is different,\u201d said community safety officer Evan Pritchard.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe all do training to familiarise ourselves with each vehicle so we know where everything is when we are called to a fire.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe need to be prepared at all times.\u201d<\/p>\n
After climbing aboard and inspecting the trucks, students went outside where they were all able to test the fire hoses.<\/p>\n
