MEMBER for Euroa, Annabelle Cleeland, has called for local high school students to make a submission for the Kokoda Trek Scholarship.<\/p>\n
The initiative seeks to provide an opportunity for two year 11 students from the Euroa electorate to hike the Kokoda trail with a tour company during the July school holidays.<\/p>\n
Ms Cleeland said she was proud to support an initiative that provides students with a once in a lifetime opportunity.<\/p>\n
\u201cThrough this scholarship, two students will walk in the footsteps of our local veterans,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey will learn of the sacrifice made by our local war heroes and the impact they had protecting the freedoms we have today.<\/p>\n
“I encourage all eligible students to apply.\u201d<\/p>\n
Students must write an essay and complete a questionnaire about their interests and reasons for applying.<\/p>\n
Ms Cleeland will make a shortlist of applicants before they are interviewed by a panel of current and ex-servicemen or women.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe scholarships are made possible thanks to the Kilmore Racing Club and local businesses.\u201d<\/p>\n
Successful applicants will be fully chaperoned.<\/p>\n
