HEATHCOTE RSL Sub-Branch officially unveiled the mural on the front wall of the organisation’s hall last weekend.<\/p>\n
Vice-president Miles Humphrey praised the efforts of Sue Fitton who coordinated the project with husband Dan.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are very happy with the result and grateful for Sue\u2019s efforts,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Ms Fitton said she was humbled by the praise but it was the efforts of many who helped to get the project completed.<\/p>\n
\u201cShawn Lu, the artist was very easy to work with and everyone is really pleased with his work,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe understood exactly what we wanted and the end result blends perfectly with the surrounding buildings and the town.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe RSL Sub-Branch committee put their faith in me when I found Shawn and suggested him for the mural. I am very grateful.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey also did a lot of the work; raising the money, talking to council and submitting the proposal.<\/p>\n
\u201cI really had the easy job.\u201d<\/p>\n
The mural features The Australian Army, Navy, Flying Corps and Medical Service personnel from the First World War.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe mural depicts them walking towards the front door of the RSL,\u201d said Ms Fitton.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is to symbolise the RSL ideals of commemoration and camaraderie, focussing on keeping the ANZAC spirit alive.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey are accompanied by two children, representative of the future, welcoming them home.<\/p>\n
\u201cEveryone will see different things in it.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think it fits in well with the surrounds, the RSL building and is an asset to the town.<\/p>\n
