HEATHCOTE Police are calling for greater vigilance in locking up cars and homes.<\/p>\n
The effort comes after an increase in break-ins and thefts in the area.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is a timely reminder not to be complacent,\u201d said officer-in-charge at Heathcote Police Station, Sergeant Holly Lembke.<\/p>\n
\u201cGone are the days of farmers and residents leaving their cars unlocked and keys in their vehicles overnight.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere has been a number of opportunistic thefts in both Heathcote township and rural properties in the area.<\/p>\n
\u201cAn increase in thefts of motor vehicles and burglary offences have been reported.<\/p>\n
\u201cI understand people in this area are too trusting when it comes to locking their homes, garages and vehicles.<\/p>\n
\u201cEveryone needs to be more cautious.\u201d<\/p>\n
Residents are also urged to report any suspicious behaviour.<\/p>\n
