THE oncology department at St John of God Bendigo has grown its capacity to treat cancer patients with the appointment of a new oncologist.<\/p>\n
Dr Amy Davies has joined the hospital’s onsite caregiver team to provide support patients receiving treatment.<\/p>\n
Dr Davies said she had received a warm welcome from the community of Bendigo and the St John of God team.<\/p>\n
“I’ve found the whole St John of God Bendigo Hospital is very cohesive and friendly to patients and colleagues,” she said.<\/p>\n
“In the cancer area, it was very clear from day one that the oncology nurses and support staff are not only extremely experienced but also incredibly kind and skilled.”<\/p>\n
Dr Davies said she will available to assist local referring GP’s with advice and information in addition to treating patients.<\/p>\n
CEO of St John of God Bendigo, Michael Hogan, said he was pleased to have Dr Davies join their team of nurses and oncologists, which included the hybrid in-person and telehealth treatment provided by Dr Cameron McLaren.<\/p>\n
“Dr Davies has broad experience with treating most organ cancers and she has undertaken significant academic research,” Mr Hogan said.<\/p>\n
“Private patients with cancer now have access to an extensive suite of personalised care and services.”<\/p>\n
The hospital has plans to further expand their offering for private cancer patients by incorporating services from St John of God’s existing allied health team.<\/p>\n
Mr Hogan said oncology rehabilitation services will soon be available and will be overseen by Dr Kareen Khaw.<\/p>\n
“Dr Khaw is a caring and clinically driven doctor who is passionate about rehabilitation medicine,” Mr Hogan said.<\/p>\n
