MORE than 80 people attended the recent performance by vocal duo Charm of Finches at Heathcote RSL Hall.<\/p>\n
The performance was organised by the Mudbrick Motley Theatre Group and subsidised by the City of Greater Bendigo and Regional Arts Victoria.<\/p>\n
“I was surprised as people kept rolling in right up until the show was ready to start,” said Maree Hingston, founder of MMTG and Advocate for Engine Room Productions from CoGB.<\/p>\n
“I had estimated there would be about 60 attendees and we had to put out more seats.<\/p>\n
“This was one of the largest audiences we’ve had in over eight years.<\/p>\n
“We are indebted to Heathcote Community House for assisting with marketing and the RSL ladies who provided a delicious home-baked supper.<\/p>\n
“These theatre events are fully professional and yet because they are subsidised, our entry prices are as low as $10 per person.<\/p>\n
“I am grateful there are so many prepared to support the Engine Room Productions in this town.”<\/p>\n
The Charm of Finches is an Australian duo consisting of sisters Mabel and Ivy Windred-Wornes, who write and perform contemporary folk songs.<\/p>\n
“Their voices harmonise gracefully, and each song tells a different story of their personal experiences of love, grief and nature,” said attendee Nancy Miller said. “They used the violin and guitar to great effect.”<\/p>\n
Linda Cornelisson attended the performance with husband Henk and thanked Engine Room Productions for arranging the event.<\/p>\n
“The girls were enchanting,” she said.<\/p>\n
“The crowd showed their appreciation of a very professional performance, and we enjoyed the yummy offerings by the RSL ladies at interval.<\/p>\n
“Altogether a lovely evening.”<\/p>\n
