SPEAKING in Parliament recently, Nationals member for Euroa brought attention to local education challenges including the lack of public high schools and school crossing funding.<\/p>\n
Ms Cleeland said towns like Heathcote and Kilmore were left at a significant disadvantage due to the lack of secondary schools.<\/p>\n
“Kilmore is the largest town in Victoria without a secondary school,” Ms Cleeland said.<\/p>\n
“The need for a school in Kilmore has been repeatedly brought to this government’s attention, yet it has been ignored every time.<\/p>\n
“Unfortunately, Kilmore is not the only part of my electorate desperately campaigning for a public school.<\/p>\n
“There is currently a community led petition calling for a public secondary school in Heathcote, a town with a population large enough to warrant a secondary school.”<\/p>\n
Ms Cleeland also addressed the closure of the local primary school in Tooborac and concerns over school crossing supervisors in both Heathcote and the Strathbogie Shire.<\/p>\n
“Funding debates continue between our local councils and the state government over who will adequately fund the school crossing supervisor program,” she said.<\/p>\n
“Our children are left incredibly vulnerable in the meantime.<\/p>\n
“It is a matter of utmost importance to our local community that is genuinely putting children’s lives on the line.<\/p>\n
“Conversations I have had with community members have made it clear that this is something worth fighting for, and I stand with them.<\/p>\n
“We will not stop fighting until our children are safe.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
