FAMOUS for its magnificent display of autumn leaves, Heathcote’s Valley of Liquid Ambers never fails to delight locals and visitors alike.<\/p>\n
In hues ranging from gold to red, the trees are now at their colourful best.<\/p>\n
Ren\u00e9 Laan lived in Heathcote from 2006-2008, then moved to Alice Springs and returned in 2021 with her husband and two children.<\/p>\n
“How much joy does this place bring?” she said recently in a Facebook post inspiring a long list of responses.<\/p>\n
“My 87-year-old mother lives with us. She is from South Africa and absolutely loves the coloured leaves.”<\/p>\n
Popular for leisurely walks, picnics or quiet moments of reflection under the golden canopy, the valley is a must-see attraction for visitors.<\/p>\n
Situated beside the McIvor Creek, the park and picnic area can be accessed via Forest Drive beside Queen Meadow Caravan Park.<\/p>\n
“It looks beautiful in all seasons,” said Jess Evans from Adelaide who is visiting family in Heathcote with her two children Dahlia and Declan.<\/p>\n
“It is a great place for children to play amongst the leaves and the colours are amazing.”<\/p>\n
Who planted the trees and when is a mystery.<\/p>\n
“I’ve been told it was possibly an Apex Club project,” said Heathcote McIvor Historical Society research officer Elizabeth Murfitt.<\/p>\n
“Together with the then McIvor Shire, community members and families planted the trees.<\/p>\n
“We would love to know the full story and when they were planted.”<\/p>\n
