{"id":96041,"date":"2024-06-24T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-06-23T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/mcivortimes\/?p=96041"},"modified":"2024-06-19T17:19:13","modified_gmt":"2024-06-19T07:19:13","slug":"new-skills-and-social-connections","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/mcivortimes\/news\/new-skills-and-social-connections\/","title":{"rendered":"New skills and social connections"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>FIFTEEN participants gathered at the Heathcote Community House last Saturday for a Kokedama workshop facilitated by Abbey Brown from Kokos about Kokos.<\/p>\n<p>The event was subsidised by the City of Greater Bendigo Emergency Recovery Hub after Heathcote was twice impacted by flood events.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It is wonderful to be able to provide something that gives a social connection to residents after the impact of the floods,&#8221; said community house executive officer Vicki Forde.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We really appreciate the funding&#8230;allowing us to provide activities to help with social connectivity. &#8220;Fifteen people attended the workshop and from the feedback received, everyone had a wonderful time.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Activities such as this allow attendees to connect with new people or reconnect with old friends while doing something productive.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Everyone took home a beautiful Kokedama and several attendees arranged to have coffee together afterwards.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It was a very positive result.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Kokedama is a type of Japanese bonsai, growing plants in a ball of soil wrapped in moss.<\/p>\n<p>All materials were provided for the workshop as well as care instructions and a gift tag.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/25\/2024\/06\/LorraineTinker_72802.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Keen gardener Lorraine Tinker was thrilled to learn a new skill.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Ms Brown said she was pleased to make the trip from Bendigo to facilitate the workshop.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The participants were all brilliant,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s really great to be able to work with people from the Heathcote community.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Participant Mandy Shelley said Kokedamas were something she had been interested in for a long time.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I have a beautiful cyclamen Kokedama to take home, and I&#8217;ve learnt a new skill,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>FIFTEEN participants gathered at the Heathcote Community House last Saturday for a Kokedama workshop facilitated by Abbey Brown from Kokos about Kokos.
