{"id":96117,"date":"2024-06-29T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-06-28T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/mcivortimes\/?p=96117"},"modified":"2024-06-27T11:16:33","modified_gmt":"2024-06-27T01:16:33","slug":"cfa-to-install-smoke-alarms-for-at-risk-residents","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/mcivortimes\/news\/cfa-to-install-smoke-alarms-for-at-risk-residents\/","title":{"rendered":"CFA to install smoke alarms for at risk residents"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE CFA has announced the Smoke Alarm Installation program for rural and regional Victoria, providing at risk residents with free smoke alarms.<\/p>\n<p>The program also aims to increase understanding and awareness of home fire hazards and reduce the number of preventable fire fatalities.<\/p>\n<p>CFA Chief Officer Jason Heffernan said it&#8217;s vital everyone has a working smoke alarm in their homes to prevent fire fatalities.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We&#8217;ve seen the devastating results of house fires where there wasn&#8217;t a working smoke alarm,&#8221; Mr Heffernan said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is an important program to ensure we&#8217;re helping our communities, especially those more vulnerable such as elderly Victorians.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Smoke alarms play a critical role in early fire detection and evacuation, but many homes either do not have enough smoke alarms or have them installed in the wrong areas.<\/p>\n<p>According to the CFA, fatal house fires often start in bedrooms, underlining the importance of comprehensive smoke alarm coverage.<\/p>\n<p>Community Safety Coordinator at Heathcote CFA, Evan Pritchard, is urging everyone eligible to contact Heathcote CFA.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The program&#8230; is aimed at assisting people who cannot obtain, purchase, install or maintain smoke alarms themselves,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Local brigade members with the appropriate training are available to assist eligible residents with installation of new smoke alarms free of charge.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Register at <a href=\"mailto:nwr-commeng@cfa.vic.gov.au\">nwr-commeng@cfa.vic.gov.au<\/a> or call 0499 416 941.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>THE CFA has announced the Smoke Alarm Installation program for rural and regional Victoria, providing at risk residents with free smoke alarms.
