AFTER Tooborac Primary School was deemed non-operational this year due to lack of enrolments, six community members formed the Tooborac Primary School Community Action Group.<\/p>\n

The group is working on developing an enrolment promotion strategy.<\/p>\n

“At our first meeting with the education department, we discussed forming a school council but evidently without school parents and a principal this could not be achieved,” said group member Sue Anderson.<\/p>\n

“The Tooborac Primary School Community Action Group was formed with six local community members who met with the Education Department on 17 June.<\/p>\n

“One of the main objectives is to work directly with the department to develop an enrolment promotion Strategy.<\/p>\n

“This will be delivered by the newly appointed Assistant Principal Liaison person Sandra Allison with the support of the Advisory Group members.<\/p>\n

“Sandra will be at the school on Tuesdays and is available to meet parents, run tours and meet with prospective parents, and talk about the benefits of attending a small country school.”<\/p>\n

Supported by the TPS Community Action Group and Primary School, a playgroup commenced at the school earlier this week.<\/p>\n

Facilitator for the group, Janita Dundon said she was pleased to see how many children, parents, grandparents and community members turned up for the first session.<\/p>\n

“The playgroup is a good opportunity to bring families together,” she said. “It is great to see so many here to support the playgroup.<\/p>\n

“We are keeping it simple with a theme each week, stories, songs and playtime.<\/p>\n

“This week we had a farm theme, next week will be under the sea and we will have a fire engine visit in August.”<\/p>\n

Ms Anderson said the TPS Community Action Group is excited to see the school facilities being used for the playgroup.<\/p>\n

“I am thrilled to see how many people have come from the community and surrounding district,” she said.<\/p>\n

“The intergenerational support is great for both the children and the community.<\/p>\n

“Young parents and\/or grandparents can come and enjoy some social time together with a welcome cuppa and meet other community members.<\/p>\n

“Our goal for the Tooborac Primary School is to share and support a real sense of community and creativity for the children, in a happy, rural environment that our small school offers.<\/p>\n

“We encourage everyone to get involved and show support of this initiative driven by the local community.”<\/p>\n
