MAJOR AUSTRALIAN MEDAL HOPES<\/p>\n

Tokyo champion Australia’s Matt Wearn is guaranteed a gold or silver medal in the men’s dinghy competition at the Paris Olympics after the gold medal race was rescheduled due to poor weather conditions.<\/p>\n

Reigning world champion Nina Kennedy will be looking to bag her first ever Olympic medal in the women’s pole vault after qualifying in equal first.<\/p>\n

Matt Denny is hoping to nab a podium position in the men’s discus throw final.<\/p>\n

A world record broken but can Australia continue their strong form to grab top spot on the podium in the men’s team pursuit as they face long-time rivals Great Britain in the gold medal ride off.<\/p>\n

She’s got a bronze already under her belt, but Australia’s Jemima Montag will strut for a second Olympic medal in the mixed relay marathon race walk final alongside Rhydian Cowley.<\/p>\n

It is a do-or-die quarter-final for Australia’s men’s water polo team as the Sharks face the United States in order to keep their Olympic medal campaign alive.<\/p>\n

Arisa Trew (women’s park skateboarding) – After falling in her first run, 14-year-old Arisa Trew left no prisoners in her third and final run to become the youngest Australian ever to win Olympic gold after scoring 93.18 in the skateboarding park final.<\/p>\n

BRONZE<\/p>\n

Matthew Glaetzer, Leigh Hoffman and Matthew Richardson (men’s team sprint cycling) – Australia’s time of 41.597 seconds was enough to trump hosts France’s 41.993 seconds in their ride-off in front of a raucous home crowd.<\/p>\n

OTHER HEADLINE GOLD MEDALLISTS<\/p>\n

Cuban wrestler Mijain Lopez has made history as the first athlete to win five Olympic golds in the same event, taking another title in the men’s Greco-Roman heavyweight wrestling.<\/p>\n

American Cole Hocker upstaged defending Olympic champion Jakob Ingebrigtsen and reigning world champ Josh Kerr to win the men’s 1500m gold medal.<\/p>\n

WHAT ELSE HAPPENED<\/p>\n

Australia have broken the men’s team pursuit world record, setting up a gold-medal ride-off for the ages against long-time rivals Great Britain.<\/p>\n

Australia’s water polo Stingers have overpowered Greece 9-6 to storm through to the semi-finals of the women’s tournament and another step closer to their first Olympic gold since Sydney 2000.<\/p>\n

Tokyo silver medallists Mariafe Artacho del Solar and Taliqua Clancy have charged into the semi-finals of the women’s beach volleyball after beating Switzerland 2-1.<\/p>\n
