SPECIALISED smoke alarms for the deaf and hard of hearing are being subsidised through a State Government scheme.<\/p>\n

The smoke alarm alerts users to fire hazards using a flashing red light and a vibrating pad to ensure safety within the home, particularly when asleep.<\/p>\n

Eligible applicants must be deaf or hard of hearing with a severe to profound loss or a severe high frequency loss.<\/p>\n

The smoke alarm pack retails at $685. Those eligible will receive the pack for a $50 out of pocket fee and the fee can be waived for those who hold a Pension Concession Card.<\/p>\n

Heathcote Fire Brigade Community Safety Officer Evan Pritchard said the smoke alarms could potentially save lives. “The CFA’s annual smoke alarm campaign has been underway for the last few months,” he said.<\/p>\n

“This year, the Victorian Government has announced a subsidy program that provides smoke Alarms for people with a hearing disability.<\/p>\n

“It’s open to all Victorian residents that qualify and is a great initiate for those vulnerable people in our community.”<\/p>\n
